Rearing

Because the home makes a difference; so does the meat processing. Whenever possible, Micarna uses animals in its production that have spent their lives on a label farm.

Access to open air, retreating opportunities, sufficient light and short transport routes are the cornerstones of Micarna’s animal welfare concept. Therefore, nearly 70 per cent of the animals processed by Micarna are label animals (IP-Suisse, Bio) and are raised with animal welfare standards far exceeding the legal requirements. Our label animals are not prophylactically treated with antibiotics.

Micarna – Pig rearing

Among pigs, nearly 60 per cent live on so-called label farms, the majority of them on IP-Suisse farms. IP-Suisse stands for near-natural, animal-friendly agriculture. The sustainability programme is based on the IP-Suisse guidelines, the Swiss union of integrated producing farmers. Pigs raised in this way live in especially animal-friendly conditions and have access to the outdoors.

Every tenth cattle is raised with organic farming, which means they enjoy additional time in the meadow. So-called “Bio-Weide-Beef” stands for grassland-based organic beef production. The animals are kept in the meadow during the vegetation period in the summer and in animal-friendly stables with access to the outdoors in the winter.
